# Settings

Use Settings to choose the app theme, manage your license, set up AI integrations, check the connection and find updates.

Settings has four sections, General, License, Integrations and About, that apply across the app.

## Sections

Settings has four sections: **General**, **License**, **Integrations** and **About**. On a wide window a section list on the left jumps to each one.

## General

**Theme** has three choices:

- **System** follows your computer's light or dark setting
- **Light**
- **Dark**

The sun or moon button at the right of the top bar also switches between light and dark from any screen.

## License

The License section changes with your license state.

### If The App Is Activated

The section shows:

- **Status**
- **Plan**
- **Expires**, when your license has an expiry date
- **Device**

Actions:

- **Verify now**
- **Deactivate this device**

### If The App Is Not Activated

To unlock with a PayPal purchase:

- **PayPal subscription or transaction ID**
- **Email (optional)**
- **Verify and unlock**
- **Purchase license**, which opens the Vox Stella product page

To use a license key instead, choose **Use a license key instead**, enter the **License key** and click **Activate license key**.

While a PayPal purchase is being checked, the section shows **PayPal verification pending** with **Verify now** and **Clear pending activation**.

## Integrations

Integrations connects local AI clients to the licensed, read-only Vox Stella calculation engine through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

- A status label shows **Ready**, or **Setup required** when something is missing.
- The connection is read-only: it can't see your saved charts or notes or change anything, and it never receives your license key.
- Open the read-only tools list to see what an AI client can use.
- **Copy JSON config**, **Copy Codex config** and **Show launcher** help you add Vox Stella to your AI client.

MCP setup is available in the installed Windows application. Keep Vox Stella activated on the device you use it from.

## About

- **Version** shows the app version. **Check for updates** asks the desktop app to look for a new version; when an update has downloaded, **Restart to update** appears.
- **Connection** shows whether the app is connected to its calculation engine. **Test connection** checks again. If the app is not connected, charts can't be cast until it reconnects.
- **What's new** opens the release notes, and **Documentation** opens these guides.
- **Technical details** lists the backend API version, engine, backend release date, ephemeris (Swiss Ephemeris), default house system (Regiomontanus) and the classical sources (Lilly, Bonatti, Ptolemy, Firmicus and Al-Biruni).
