# Cast A Chart

Use the Cast chart screen to enter the question, place and time for a new horary chart.

Use this screen when you want to create a new horary chart from scratch instead of reopening a saved one.

## Before You Cast

- Open the screen from **Cast chart** in the top bar, or from the **Cast chart** button on the Dashboard.
- In the packaged desktop app, casting a horary chart requires activation. Until then the screen explains that you need to activate Vox Stella in Settings.
- If the horary engine is offline, the screen says so and no chart is cast or saved until the backend is connected again.
- When casting is blocked, the reason appears under the **Cast chart** button.

## Required Fields

### Your Question

Enter a clear, specific horary question. The hint under the field reads: ask a specific, answerable question that matters to you right now.

### Location

Enter the place for the chart. Suggestions appear while you type, such as `London, UK`.

If you leave either field empty, the form highlights it when you click **Cast chart**.

## Time Options

You can cast using either:

- **Use current time**
- **Specify custom time**

With **Specify custom time**:

- both **Date** and **Time** are required
- the **Timezone** field appears and is detected from the location, for example `Auto-detected timezone: Europe/Paris`
- **Choose manually** lets you pick the timezone from a list instead, and **Detect automatically** switches back
- if the timezone can't be detected from the location, the form asks you to choose it manually or enter a more specific place

## Houses (Optional)

- **Automatic (recommended)**: houses are picked from your question's wording.
- **Choose houses manually**: enter houses as comma-separated numbers in **Houses (comma-separated)**.

A manual entry needs at least the querent's and the quesited's houses, for example `1,7` for the querent and a partner or opponent. The form lists common pairs:

- `1,2` for money
- `1,5` for children
- `1,10` for career
- `1,4` for home

## Advanced Options

**Advanced options** (override warnings and adjust reception weighting) appear only when the horary engine is connected. Click **Advanced options** to open them.

**Override warnings** has four checkboxes:

- **Ignore radicality warnings**
- **Ignore void-of-course Moon**
- **Ignore combustion**
- **Ignore Saturn in the 7th**

Overrides change the verdict, so use them only if you know why.

**Reception weighting** has a **Mutual exaltation boost** slider from 0% to 30%. It adds confidence when the significators are in mutual exaltation; the default is 15%.

## What Happens When You Click Cast Chart

- The form checks the question, the location and, for a custom time, the date, time and timezone.
- The horary engine casts the chart.
- The chart is saved on this device and opens in the chart view, ready to read.

## Practical Tips

- Ask one precise question rather than a broad topic.
- Use a custom time only when you want a specific past or planned moment.
- Leave houses on **Automatic** unless you already know which houses the question needs.
