Relationship And Timing

# Election

Use Election to scan a date range and place for good times to start something, compare the strongest windows, send a chosen time back to Astro Clock, and export the ranked list.

[Back to Astro Clock docs](/docs/astro-clock/)

Uses / depends on

Can use saved charts

Election can run without a saved chart, but supported purposes add natal weighting when one is chosen, and two-person scans use two.

## What The Election Tool Does

In Astro Clock, click **Election** in the Timing group of the Tools bar. The tool opens in its own window ("Find good times to start something"); close it with the close button or press Escape.

It can:

- scan a date range for a chosen purpose
- show a scan timeline and the peak windows
- rank the top times with their pros and cautions
- send a chosen time back to Astro Clock with **Jump to time**
- export the ranked list

Legend

- **Purpose**

- **Method**: **Classic** or **Two-person**

- **Shared-period extraction** (two-person and real-estate scans)

- **When and where**: start and end date and time

- **Location** and optional **Time zone**

- **Days**

- **Hours from** and **Hours to**

- **Step (minutes)** and **Max results**

- Close button (or press Escape)

## Purposes

**Purpose** offers:

- Marriage
- Conception
- Lunar Fertility Windows
- Business
- Contract
- Real estate
- Legal action
- Surgery
- Beautification
- Haircut
- Journey
- Viral publish
- Battle

The shared scan steps stay the same, but the options under **Purpose** change with your choice.

## Shared Scan Controls

Every purpose uses the same **When and where** inputs:

- **Start date** and **Start time**, **End date** and **End time**, in local time at the location
- **Location** and an optional **Time zone**
- **Days**: the weekdays to include, with **All** and **None**
- **Hours from** and **Hours to**: an optional local hour range
- **Step (minutes)**: how densely the scan moves through the range
- **Max results**

A scan covers at most 30 days (720 hours).

## Birth Charts And Saved Charts

Most purposes can add one saved chart under **Birth chart**:

- **Source**: **None** or **Saved chart**
- **Weight by solar/lunar returns** needs a birth chart

With a saved chart, supported purposes add natal contacts and, when enabled, return windows. Their effect depends on the purpose; check the model notes above the results. Battle uses a limited natal overlay: it does not judge natal promise, annual revolutions or primary directions, and return proximity provides context without adding points.

Some methods need saved charts to work:

- **Marriage, Two-person** uses **Saved chart A** and **Saved chart B**, one for each partner
- **Business, Founder fit** uses one or more saved charts for a founder or owner
- **Real estate** uses one saved chart for the buyer or seller
- **Lunar Fertility Windows** uses a saved natal chart for its Sun-Moon phase

- **Saved charts**: chart A and chart B

## Purpose-Specific Options

Examples from the current app:

- **Marriage**: **Classic**, or **Two-person**, which keeps each partner's line separate from the event, applies birth-time precision checks and extracts shared favourable periods (mode, line scope and threshold)
- **Conception**: guidance, planetary day and hour, and fixed-star screening
- **Lunar Fertility Windows**: phase, phase and antiphase, or antiphase, and a visual level
- **Business**: **Classic** or **Founder fit**, with lunation, fixed-star, timing and commerce options and a default, conservative or growth mode
- **Contract**: new, renew, revise or finalize; days after Mercury's direct station; fixed Ascendant; Saturn binding; fixed stars
- **Real estate**: buy or sell, one buyer or seller chart, and period extraction
- **Legal action**: filing, responding or counter-filing, with timing and fixed-star options
- **Surgery**: procedure type, body part, last lunation screen and fixed stars
- **Beautification**: procedure type and body parts
- **Haircut**: hair goal and cut type
- **Journey**: long (9th house) or short (3rd house) journey, and fixed stars
- **Viral publish**: timing and fixed-star options, with natal 11th-house rulers when a saved chart is chosen
- **Battle**: action focus, timing and fixed-star options

### Battle Elections

Battle combines Bonatti and Morin rules with the interpretation choices described in the model notes. It weighs planets according to the side they represent and excludes prohibited times from the ranked results and selectable timeline. If every evaluated time is prohibited, the result says **No eligible times found**. A failed evaluation is reported separately.

The combust-hour cycle starts at the exact preceding New Moon. Optional fixed-star screening uses positions for the election date and a one-degree orb around the actual Ascendant, Midheaven and selected significators. Action focus and planetary timing are scoring preferences, not separate historical methods.

Adding a saved chart supplies a limited natal contact overlay. Solar and lunar return windows are context only; a nearby return does not by itself make a time favorable. Scores compare times within the same scan and model version.

## Running A Scan

Click **Scan** once the required fields are filled in. A progress bar shows while the scan runs.

The form checks for obvious problems first, such as a missing start or end, an end before the start, a missing location or a range longer than 30 days.

## Reading Results

![Annotated Election results: selected window, peak windows and the top ranked windows table](/assets/img/docs/astro-clock/astro-clock-election-results-v320.webp)
Figure 3. Results of a classic marriage scan with a saved chart.

Legend

- **Selected window**, with its score, pros and cautions

- **Jump to time**

- **Peak windows**

- **Top ranked windows**, with the number of rows

- **Export**

- Time and score

- Notes: pros and cautions

- **Jump to time** for any row

- The **Scan timeline** shows every retained window; click a bar or a peak shortcut to select it.
- **Selected window** shows the time, the score, the **Pros** and **Cautions**, and **Jump to time**.
- **Peak windows** lists the strongest times.
- **Top ranked windows** lists the best times with their score and notes.

Scores rank times within one model and scan only. They are not a shared scale, so scores from different purposes can't be compared. A note above the results records the model, its source profile, the step, whether natal context was applied, and the conventions used (for example Lilly's void-of-course Moon and Regiomontanus houses).

![Annotated two-person result: selected window, the event line and each partner's line, and extracted periods](/assets/img/docs/astro-clock/astro-clock-election-two-person-window-v320.webp)
Figure 4. A selected window in a two-person scan.

Legend

- **Selected window**

- Selected signal and aggregate score

- Threshold, whether the window passes the extraction cut, and its pros and cautions

- **Jump to time**

- **Two-person lines**: the event line

- A partner's line, with its precision

- **Extracted periods**

In a two-person scan, each line (the event and each partner) shows its favourable and tense scores. The selected window shows its threshold and whether it passes the extraction cut. **Extracted periods** lists the shared favourable periods that pass the threshold and line scope you chose, and the ranked list below is headed **Top extracted windows**.

## Jumping Back Into Astro Clock

**Jump to time** sends the selected time, with the election's location and time zone, to Astro Clock, so you can inspect that chart in full.

## Exporting

When results exist, the **Export** menu offers **Top windows (CSV)**, a light export of the ranked list with each time, score and notes. Lunar Fertility Windows scans also offer a **Fertility report**.

## Practical Workflow

- Choose the purpose and, where offered, the method.
- Set the date range, location and step.
- Narrow the days and hours if needed.
- Add a saved chart when you want natal context, or the two charts a two-person scan needs.
- Click **Scan**.
- Compare the selected window, the peak windows and the top ranked list.
- Use **Jump to time** to inspect the best candidates in Astro Clock.
- Export the list if you want to keep it.

## Notes

- Not every purpose needs a saved chart.
- A saved chart adds the natal context supported by the selected purpose. Battle return windows provide context only.
- Surgery, Conception and Lunar Fertility Windows are traditional symbolic timing tools, not medical advice, fertility diagnosis, ovulation estimation or fetal-sex prediction.
